Constipation may mean different things to different people. In general, constipation refers to the inability to pass more than small amounts of hard, dry stool, usually fewer than three bowel movements a week. A low-fiber diet and lack of exercise are often the causes. In most cases, constipation is temporary and not serious. Understanding causes, prevention and treatment will help most people find relief.
